Construction in Cartagena and the expansion of a recently acquired facility in Bogotá will add 22,000 pallet positions to the country’s storage capacity.
Emergent Cold Latin America (Emergent Cold LatAm), the largest provider of temperature-controlled food storage and logistics solutions in Latin America, announced today the expansion of its storage infrastructure in Colombia with two projects that will add 22,000 new pallet positions to its capacity in the country.
The company will build an additional warehouse in Cartagena, where it already has a facility. With a capacity of 9,000 pallets for chilled or frozen foods, this new warehouse will be located in the Parque Central Free Trade Zone. In Funza, in the Bogotá metropolitan area, a recently acquired facility will be expanded to add 13,000 new positions.
“Bogotá and Cartagena are two strategic regions for our growth in Colombia. The capital, being a major metropolitan area, and the coastal city for having one of the largest ports in Latin America. This is an important step in our expansion in the country, representing the significance of the Colombian market and our commitment to economic development and logistical infrastructure,” highlighted Alain Eichmann, Managing Director for the Caribbean region at Emergent Cold LatAm.
Emergent Cold LatAm began operations in Colombia in 2022 when it acquired Frigorífico Metropolitano (Frigometro), a national network of temperature-controlled storage with facilities in four strategic regions of the country. In the same year, it completed another investment with the expansion of a warehouse located in Girón. In 2024, it completed the acquisition of Red Polar, adding another warehouse to its operations. Currently, the company operates five warehouses in the regions of Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Buga, and Cartagena.
